Who Wants to be a Globally Educated Millionaire?

Presented by: Dr. Manoucher Khosrowshahi

The events of 9/11 have only served to underscore the importance of international education and understanding.  Global education is increasingly important to the security and prosperity of our nation and the world.  We must educate our students about world affairs as we face challenges created by cultural diversity, homeland security, and the global marketplace.  This presentation deals with the following two questions:

“Why” of international education and “What” of international education.

This presentation is designed to assist students, teachers, counselors, and administrators in developing a global perspective in college education.  International opportunities and challenges now confront every community in the U.S.  The World is rapidly changing, and so is the role of the U.S. in that world.  The world is becoming more and more cosmopolitan and we are all influencing each other.  Decisions made in Kabul, Moscow, Tokyo, Paris, Tehran, Baghdad, have numerous intended and unintended consequences in all parts of the world.

How can we educate Americans to meet the challenges and take advantage of the new opportunities in the new global community?

Colleges and universities play an important role to educate students internationally
.  International Education has become a megatrend.  To ensure the survival and well-being of our communities, it is imperative that community colleges develop a globally and multiculturally competent citizenry.

The primary goal of this presentation is to enhance your ability to deal with the challenges of the new millennium. One of the best ways to realize this goal is to infuse case studies in the existing curriculum. Therefore, the workshop will feature hands-on activities, simulations, and a variety of class participation exercises. Topics include the importance of global economy, cultural understanding, multi-cultural perspective on college teaching, internationalizing the curriculum, strategies for the new millennium, and meeting international challenges.
