Travel/Study Abroad Courses at Tyler Junior College

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the TJC's Study Abroad Program. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has approved Tyler Junior College's Turkey trips during the spring break or May break to be 3 hours credit courses for students.  These will be elective courses.    The course number is GOVT2389 respectively.

To receive a credit, students must register for this courses like any other course at TJC.  Since this is a special course, students can register for the spring semester before the trip starts.

These courses are designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities for undergraduate students and other individuals who undertake foreign travel. They offer the participant opportunities to learn outside the classroom; affords an opportunity to take advantage of cross cultural materials, historic sites, geographic locations, geologic formations, museums, art centers, regional customs and foods, language enhancement opportunities, specialized research libraries, local universities, legislatures, etc. which are available only through travel.

The purpose of this web site is to provide individuals with an overview of the application process, pertinent deadlines and fee schedules in preparation and planning for the study program.

Studying abroad is really about more than credits from another school, or classes taught in a foreign tongue, or escaping into a different country. It's about discovery. Once you are finally "in-country" and registered, lost, and like a freshman all over again at your new university, keep an open mind to different experiences. After all, you didn't go to another country to do the same things you would at home.
